Huntington High (WV) standout Tayveon Wilson Commits to Clemson
Tight end prospect Tayveon Wilson committed to Clemson on Thursday. The Huntington, WV native and multi-sport standout at Huntington High chose the Tigers over West Virginia and Penn State.
"The gameday visit really helped me make my decision," Wilson, the No. 2 wide receiver in the state of West Virginia for the 2026 class, told Clemson Sports Talk. "They treated me as a top priority and really showed that they wanted me. Clemson felt like home too."
Wilson traveled to the Upstate for the Sept. 28 matchup against Stanford as Hurricane Helene affected a few southern states. The Tigers won 40-14, and during the contest senior tight end Jake Briningstool snagged a 3-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and redshirt freshman Olsen Patt-Henry made a 2-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
"I did see the two touchdowns, and I saw Briningstool lining up in the slot for some of their plays, "Wilson noted when he spoke with us after the visit. "That fits my style of play because I also line up in the slot and occasionally as a tight end."
Wilson is a receiver in the Huntington offense but tight ends coach Kyle Richardson sees him as a tweener (a mix between a wide receiver and tight end) in the Tigers offense, according to Wilson.
Wilson had 27 receptions, 588 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns for Huntington High in 2023.
He is also a standout in basketball, baseball, and track and field.
