Schieffelin Leads Second Half Comeback in Clemson’s 70-55 win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) totals his second double-double of the season and 14th of his career with an 18-point, 13-rebound performance to help lead Clemson University men’s basketball to a 70-55 victory over San Francisco.

The Tigers (5-1) were down 29-24 after the opening stanza, but exploded for 46 second-half points, which included a 25-4 run that spanned 7:05 in the second period to fuel the victory.

It proved to be the largest victory margin in a game Clemson trailed at the half away from home since Dec. 21, 2007, vs. DePaul. The Tigers trailed 41-40 at the break of that game and won 90-74.

Schieffelin collected a “Triple Leadership” in the contest, leading the Tigers in points, rebounds and assists. Dillon Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) scored 11 points, including knocking down three triples and adding six rebounds – a new career high.

Viktor Lakhin (Anapa, Russia/CSKA-2/Cincinnati) helped Schieffelin with Clemson’s efficiency in the post in the second half. Lakhin finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals. Chauncey Wiggins (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) finished with five points and six rebounds, Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) totaled nine points, while Jaeden Zackery (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central/Boston College) added seven points and four assists.

Del Jones (Landover, Md./Arizona Compass Prep) finished 3-for-6 off the bench with six points and three rebounds.

A 16-4 run to start the second half helped Clemson surge to a 40-33 advantage. From there, the Tigers wouldn’t look back. Clemson would lead by as many as 21 points late in the second half before cruising to the 15-point victory.

Twenty-four of Clemson’s 46 points in the second half were in the paint, while Dillon Hunter finished with nine points and five rebounds in the second stanza. 

Clemson advances to the championship game of the Sunshine Slam against Penn State tomorrow (Nov. 26) at 4 p.m. The game will air on CBS Sports Network.
