Jeremiah Alexander, the former five-star prospect from Alabama in the Class of 2022, will transfer to Clemson, reuniting with his high school teammate and fellow five-star standout Peter Woods.
Alexander, a redshirt sophomore, who initially signed with Alabama, brings experience, versatility, and potential to the Tigers at the linebacker position, where only rising senior Wade Woodaz and rising sophomore Sammy Brown, a 2024 freshman All-American, have significant playing experience.
Alexander's commitment marks a win for Clemson. The 6'2, 245-pound linebacker was used initially as a defensive end on Bama's defense and later switched from inside to outside linebacker, showcasing his athleticism and adaptability.
The move also reignites a potent connection forged at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. Alongside Clemson sophomore defensive tackle Woods, Alexander helped power the Warriors to multiple state championships, cementing his legacy as one of the most decorated prep players in Alabama history. As seniors, the duo combined for dominance on the defensive line, with Alexander amassing 93 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks during his MaxPreps Alabama Player of the Year campaign in 2021.
Due to an injury, Alexander missed the first three games of last season and played in only four games as a backup to starters Jihaad Campbell (All-American), Deontae Lawson (All-SEC), and Justin Jefferson. During those appearances, he recorded five total tackles, and also spent time on special teams.
For Clemson, Alexander's decision to transfer represents a strategic addition to its defense. Head coach Dabo Swinney has altered his stance on the portal, and Alexander joins former Purdue DE Will Heldt and SEMO wideout Tristan Smith as portal arrivals in Tiger Town.
