Kameron Cody Makes It Official: “Been Home Since the 7th Grade”
For Kameron Cody, the decision had been years in the making. When the four-star defensive tackle from Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia, announced his commitment to Clemson over the weekend, it was less about choosing a school and more about coming home.
"Been home since the 7th grade," Cody tweeted, a nod to his first visit to Clemson—an experience that predated any football aspirations and ultimately shaped his future.
Cody’s journey with the Tigers began in an unlikely way. In seventh grade, long before the major recruiting services took notice, he attended Brad Brownell’s Basketball Camp in Clemson. That trip was meant to sharpen his skills on the hardwood, but instead, it forged an unbreakable bond with the school. Years later, when Clemson defensive tackles coach Nick Eason extended an offer during an in-home visit, it was the realization of a dream.
“The conversation was great with Coach Eason,” Cody said after receiving the offer. “He came by my house, and we talked about what I wanted to major in. At first, I wasn’t sure that I was going to receive an offer, but during the course of our conversation, he told me I had received it.”
Cody’s commitment gives Clemson a major win on the recruiting trail, as the 6’3, 285-pound lineman had drawn interest from programs across the country, including Miami, UCF, UCLA, Arizona State, and Indiana. Yet, none of them carried the weight of the Tigers.
“Receiving an offer from Clemson was a dream come true,” Cody said. “I’ve been in love with the school for a long time.”
Clemson’s philosophy of offering only players who have been on campus had already been satisfied by Cody’s basketball camp visit years ago. It was then that he first toured the facilities and got a feel for the culture that ultimately pulled him back.
“Yes, sir, because during that camp, I toured the campus and the facilities,” Cody said. “So I believe that counted.”
While he initially planned to take more visits and finalize his timeline later in the year, Cody’s heart had already made the decision. Now, he joins a Clemson program that has long prided itself on elite defensive line play, and with his blend of power and quickness, he could be the next in line to anchor the trenches.
For Cody, this isn’t just a commitment—it’s a homecoming.
