Adam Randall’s journey at Clemson is taking a new turn this fall, and his teammates are rooting for him, none more loudly than star wide receiver Antonio Williams. With Randall making the transition from wide receiver to running back for the 2025 season, Williams says his story could become one of the program’s most memorable, especially in today’s college football landscape.
“Me and Adam have the same birthday. So we're really close. That's my dog, but if anybody deserves it, it's him,” Williams said in ClemsonSportsTalk.com’s exclusive interview at the ACC Kickoff.
“All the work he's put in, and then to stay true and committed to Clemson, even after, like you said, he switched positions and things didn't really work out at receiver, but to stay true to Clemson is just an epitome of the type of guy he is, and the type of man that Coach Swinney develops here at Clemson,” the former Dutch Fork standout noted.
Randall’s unselfishness and commitment stand out in an era when the transfer portal gives players the option to move at the first sign of adversity. Williams sees his friend’s perseverance as a reflection of the culture within the Tigers’ locker room. This season, Randall’s story can become a testament to what can happen when programs are built the right way.
“If anybody deserves it, it's Adam Randall. I'm rooting for him. I know he has the talent to do it, and he has the size to do it,” Williams added.
He’s already seen flashes of what Randall can do in the backfield, pointing to last year’s College Football Playoff game against Texas, where Randall ripped off an explosive 41-yard run.
“He did it a little bit last year in Texas. There was one play where he broke a run, and I was like, who is that? He just looked so fast. He looked natural. He's so big, he's like Derrick Henry or something running that ball, I don't know, but he's got the size for it. He's got the talent for it. He's gotta put it all together.”
For Williams, Randall’s story is about more than a position switch; it’s about loyalty, work ethic, and believing in what Clemson stands for. As the Tigers open fall camp, Williams says he can’t wait to see what his close friend can accomplish with his new opportunity.
