Clemson United Falls 1-0 to Western Michigan in Round One of the NCAA Tournament
Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson United (8-6-3) concluded their season after a 1-0 loss vs Western Michigan (8-9-4) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ransford Gyan was awarded the first opportunity to net a goal for the Tigers after a free kick came on a foul by the Broncos. The shot sailed high and the score stayed 0-0. Abdou Mane took the second shot of the night for Clemson but just a little too far the right held the score at 0-0. In the 20' Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead. The Tigers concluded the first half out shooting the Broncos 7-2.
Clemson came out at halftime eager to score tied. Gyan took a shot to start off the half but the Broncos' goal keeper got his hands on the ball to keep the Tigers from evening up the score. Back-to-back shots in the 63' from Misei Yoshizawa and Mason Jimenez looked good as gold but a Western Michigan defender blocked the Tigers chance but ultimately it was not enough to surge the Tigers to a win.
Gyan led the offense with four shots, two being on goal, while Jimenez and Wahabu Musah trailed closely behind with three. Joseph Andema made a crucial save in the 58' to keep the Broncos from gaining a 2-0 lead over the Tigers to finish the match with one save.
Clemson out-shot Western Michigan 18-6 and forced the Broncos’ keeper to make five saves.
