As NFL training camps move into full swing across the league, several former Clemson standouts are drawing early praise from coaches, teammates, and media after the opening practices.
Peter Woods, DT, Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs starting center Creed Humphrey on Woods, the 29th overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft:
"He can beat you in a lot of ways. He can bull rush you, do power moves. He can work hands, finesse moves, all those things. So, really excited about the addition of him. A guy like him learning under Chris [Jones], I think, is huge for him. So, he's got a ton of talent and a ton of potential. I'm excited to see what he does this season."
Antonio Williams, WR, Washington Commanders
After the Commanders' first training camp practice, Commanders Report by Chat Sports shared its evaluation of the team's third-round 2026 pick, No. 71 overall:
"But really, the star of the show today, guys, offensively was Antonio Williams, the third-round rookie receiver out of Clemson. Now Williams has always been a fantastic route runner, just an absolute technician from the slot. But he was really showing out today, scored multiple touchdowns, was making linebackers look crazy in coverage today. You know the quick feet, the technicality of the way he runs his routes.
"He is a pro receiver right now, and I think that we can absolutely expect him to be a big part of this wide receiver rotation immediately. And because of that, he has to be in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year this year. Because there's just not a lot of rookies that are going to get that kind of opportunities that Williams is currently slated to get in the Commanders' offense heading into the season. So really looking forward to seeing how Williams continues on here in camp. But he was really the star of the show today on the offensive side of the ball."
Adam Randall, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Kyle Youmans ("Voice of the Ravens") included the following comments on Randall, a 2026 fifth round pick, in his Practice 1 Notebook X report:
Adam Randall was impressive in his team carries. One cut runs. Physicality at POA [Point of Attack], even without pads.
BaltimoreRavens.com's Editorial Director Ryan Mink on Randall in his Day 1 Practice Report:
Rookie running back Adam Randall stood out, running over linebacker Jay Higgins IV on one run up the middle, then breaking loose for another big gain on an outside run. When Randall puts his foot in the ground, he gets up the field fast and runs with power.
Nate Wiggins, CB, Baltimore Ravens (23 career starts, 109 total tackles, 27 PDs, 4 INTs)
Wiggins, the No. 30 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, started every game for the Ravens in 2025, leading the team with 14 passes defended while adding three interceptions. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver was asked about Wiggins on Thursday.
"A guy that's laser focused. He's just laser focused on his craft. Nate, from an ability standpoint, intellect, traits, has it all. Has it all to be a great one. So when you combine that with just where his mentality is right now, and obviously his health, the sky's the limit, man. So really happy about Nate and his trajectory and where he's going."
RJ Mickens, S, Los Angeles Chargers (29 tackles, 2 PDs, 2 INTs)
Mickens, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is competing for a starting role in the secondary. Defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary discussed his progress on Thursday:
"I like to call him an old soul. He operates like a vet, and he thinks the game like a vet. So, when you see him out there, he's running the show. He's in the right spot. He's consistent. What I challenge him today is take a playmaker's mindset. Right? He had a couple of interceptions last year. We want to see that in practice as well. So, a guy that's very consistent in the right spot, smart, and just challenging him to keep making more plays."
The teams remain in the league's acclimation period and have not yet practiced in full pads. Under NFL rules, clubs typically begin padded practices after several non-contact sessions, with many expected to make the transition over the next several days as training camp intensifies ahead of the preseason.
