Tigers Secure 5-1 Win In Home Opener vs. Furman

CLEMSON, S.C. - A second half surge propelled the Tigers to a 5-1 victory in their season opener against No. 3 Furman on Thursday night at Historic Riggs Field. This win marked Clemson’s first win of the season while Furman fell to 0-1. 

The Tigers struck early in the first half as freshman Johannes Kack found the back of the net off a ball sent from Breno Correia in the 9’. The goal was the first of Kack’s collegiate career. Clemson continued to apply pressure throughout the first half with 10 shot attempts compared to the Paladins’ two. 

In the 51’ minute senior Mason Jimenez doubled the Tigers’ lead after being awarded a penalty kick following a video automated review (VAR). Clemson continued to roll as sophomore Xander Sevian recorded his first career brace with back-to-back goals within a three minute span, to put the Tigers up 4-0. Junior Ransford Gyan followed up shortly after with a goal of his own in the 68’. 

Aleska Janjic held a clean sheet for the first 82 minutes of play before Furman put themselves on the board cutting Clemson’s lead to 5-1. Janjic finished the match with four saves through his 90 minutes of work.
