Clemson has formally put LSU on notice ahead of Saturday night's season opener in Baton Rouge.

According to a Friday report from Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, Clemson officials have notified LSU that using former professional players in Saturday's game could constitute a breach of the contract between the two schools.

Dellenger reports that Clemson officials spent several days reviewing the game contract, which includes language addressing the use of ineligible players. Clemson general counsel Chip Hood communicated the school's position to LSU's general counsel Friday afternoon.

The development adds another layer to an already unusual situation surrounding the season opener.

A Louisiana judge granted a preliminary injunction Thursday allowing former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris a path to join LSU's roster. Both players previously played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss before signing NFL contracts this year.

The SEC has separately filed a federal lawsuit seeking to prevent LSU from using former professional players, maintaining that their participation would violate conference rules.

Clemson's action now protects its own position under the agreement governing Saturday's game.

The Tigers still intend to play the game, according to Dellenger's report.
