Legendary women's basketball star Barbara Kennedy-Dixon dies

Yesterday it was announced that legendary women's basketball player Barbara Kennedy-Dixon was ending her fight with cancer and beginning hospice care.

Today, the Clemson family has lost another legend.

The Clemson Black Alumni Council posted Sunday: “Our Clemson family needs our prayers. , former Clemson basketball legend, coach and assistant athletic director is ending her battle with cancer. She is now in hospice, beginning her transition. Please keep the family in prayer.

Kennedy-Dixon still leads the ACC in career scoring (3,113) and rebounding (1,252). She was the MVP of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in 1981 and 1982. She averaged 29.3 points per game in 1981 leading the nation in scoring.

She also holds the NCAA record for most field goals in a season with 392.

During BKD Day in 2017, Clemson University Athletic Director Dan Radakovich called Kennedy-Dixon, "The greatest women's basketball player in the history of Clemson University, and one of the greatest people I've ever known."

Kennedy-Dixon played for Clemson beginning in 1978 and became the first women’s basketball player inducted into the Clemson Ring of Honor.

During her time at Clemson, she was a two-time All-American and three-time All-ACC performer on the court.

Tributes to Kennedy-Dixon have started to hit social media as news of her death is beginning to get around.
