2018 Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence is closing in on Deshaun Watson's passing record in the state of Georgia. Last night, Lawrence led the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes to a 63-0 over Sandy Creek. With the win, the Canes move to 8-0 on the season.
Lawrence led, the Cartersville on scoring drives in all eight of their first-half possessions. On the night, Lawrence was 15-of-19 for 284 yards with four touchdowns.
Lawrence also had a long run in the game, keeping the ball on a read option, juking a couple of defenders before racing 68 yards coming up just short of the goal line.
Lawrence’s 284 yards gave him 12,961 for his career. Last night he passed current Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm for second in Georgia high school history in terms of passing yardage. It would be safe to assume that in his next game, he will pass former Clemson Tiger and current Houston Texan Deshaun Watson as he only needs 117 yards to set the all-time mark.
Lawrence is also closing in on Deshaun Watson's career touchdown mark of 155. Lawrence currently has 150 needing just six more to set a new mark in the Peach State.
