Clemson lands 4-star Peach State defensive back
The Clemson 2019 class grew to 23 today at 2:30 p.m when three-star safety Jalyn Phillips (6'1, 195) picked the Tigers over Oklahoma and Alabama. The Lawrenceville, Ga native from Archer High will join his five-star teammate Andrew Booth Jr. and a safety class that includes Lannden Zanders, Ray Thornton and Joseph Charleston.
It's also his birthday today and fans were tweeting 'Happy Birthday' to him ahead of his important college decision.
Phillips and Booth faced off against Charleston on Friday night in a competitive 21-19 loss to Milton(GA) that came down to the wire. Colby Wooden, another Archer teammate, committed to Auburn over Clemson last week.
Clemson offered Phillips on June 6, during Dabo Swinney's Camp, and he was considered to be a lean to the Tigers since that offer.
Phillips is an aggressive, sure-tackling safety with range who is very comfortable making plays close to the line of scrimmage.
We will have more on Phillips' commitment this week. Take a look at Clemson's full 2019 recruiting class.
