Trevor Lawrence passes Deshaun Watson in Georgia record books
2018 Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence passed Deshaun Watson's tonight to become the all-time passing leader in the state of Georgia. Lawrence, the 6-foot-6, 208-pound senior from Cartersville, Georgia surpassed Deshaun Watson's career yardage mark of 13,077 during the first half of the Purple Hurricanes 62-0 win over Chapel Hill (Ga.) High School.
Cartersville's victory extended their winning streak to 39 consecutive games and moved the Canes to 9-0 on the season.
Heading into the game, the five-star prospect needed just 117 yards passing tonight to overtake Deshaun Watson in the Georgia record books.
Lawrence knocked that out in the first half when he hit EJ Turner on a 24-yard touchdown pass. That touchdown toss extended the Hurricanes lead to 21-0 in the first quarter.
After the score, Cartersville's head coach Joey King joined Lawrence on the field, and the game stopped so that fans could recognize the achievement.
Much like the majority of games in his career, Lawrence did not return to the game after the half as Cartersville led 49-0.
In fact, Lawrence has been so impressive throughout his high school career that if you only compiled his stats in the first half of each game, he would still rank 4th all-time in the state of Georgia in all-time passing yardage.
On the night, Lawrence threw touchdown passes of 21, 61, 30, and the record-breaking 24-yard toss. The four touchdown tosses put Lawrence at 154 career touchdown passes, just one away from tying Deshaun Watson (155), and two from setting another Peach State record.
Lawrence also has the Canes eyes focused on a third consecutive state championship.
