Kelly Bryant doesn't practice with Clemson for second consecutive day
Once again former starting quarterback Kelly Bryant was absent from practice with the Clemson football team.
Earlier this morning, we got wind that Kelly Bryant didn't practice with the team on Monday. Dabo Swinney confirmed during his weekly press conference that he gave the senior quarterback the day off after an "emotional" day. However, Tuesday's absence is a new development and could indicate a more significant change is coming for Bryant.
Bryant was Clemson's starter for the first four games this season and mid-morning Monday the move to start Trevor Lawrence was announced via email.
Swinney noted today that the decision was made after careful evaluation of data.
"I've told y'all that many times that if we saw a change, if there was a change, we'd probably all know it, and that's what happened Saturday," Swinney stated. "Kelly didn't do anything wrong. He played well. But Trevor, after four games, productivity, and just the sheer data, he deserves to run out there first this game just like we changed it up all fall camp. That doesn’t mean Kelly doesn’t deserve to play."
Asked earlier today about the potential for Bryant to leave the team Swinney stated, “I would be disappointed in that because we need him, but I wouldn’t judge him for that.”
The possibility still exists for Bryant to transfer having only played in four games this season thanks to the NCAA’s new redshirt rule.
