Trevor Lawrence may only be a freshman, but he’s already received high praise from ESPN about his draft status in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Lawrence was ranked No. 1 according to ESPN as the top NFL draft prospect at quarterback in the postseason. The Cartersville, Georgia native has had a strong year, leading the Tigers to their fourth consecutive ACC Championship and College Football Playoff appearance coming up in two weeks against Notre Dame.
ESPN said: “The next big thing at the quarterback position, Lawrence has transformed the Clemson passing attack with his strong arm and impressive decision-making. He has the nation's lowest percentage of turnover-worthy plays at 1.2 percent, an incredible number for a true freshman, especially given his ability to stretch the field with his big arm. Lawrence will be eligible for the 2021 draft.”
Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, from Oklahoma, checked in at No. 4, while Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa was No. 7. South Carolina’s Jake Bentley was listed at No. 31.
The ACC Rookie of the Year has thrown for over 2,600 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. Lawrence burst onto the scene when he arrived on campus in January and gained the starting role over Kelly Bryant after the Georgia Tech game earlier this year.
