Hillgrove High (GA) defensive end Myles Murphy became the fourteenth commit and fifth straight, 5-star to pick Clemson in the 2020 recruiting class. Murphy is part of an unprecedented run of high-level recruits to select the Clemson program and his commitment keeps the Tigers atop the 2020 rankings over Alabama and LSU.

Murphy, regarded as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia, picked Clemson over Auburn. Academics played a huge role in his decision. He is a future engineer and both Clemson and Auburn forged ahead of Georgia early in the process because their engineering programs being top 70 in the country. For Murphy, the engineering programs along with coaching staffs and a family atmosphere were all key factors in his decision and Clemson eventually earned the nod over Auburn.

At 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, Murphy is listed as a defensive end but has the mobility and quickness to play linebacker.

In the summer of 2018, he was clocked at 4.6 in the 40 and 4.28 in the short shuttle at Nike the Opening. A quick look at any footage on Murphy may remind Clemson fans of the late Gaines Adams. Adams, an NFL fourth overall draft pick (2007), was fast, fluid and got after the quarterback at Clemson from 2002-2006.

Murphy joins, Fred Davis, Bryan Bresee, Demarkcus Brown and D.J. Uiagalelei as five-star members of the 2020 recruiting class.
