Dabo Swinney on ESPN's Highly Questionable

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spent some time on ESPN's Highly Questionable with Dan Le Batard and Papi.

Did you enjoy selling real estate: 

"Sure I did. I enjoyed it. I was working with some good folks. I was making more money than I ever made in my life. It was a great experience. The biggest thing was that I gained a confidence that I could be successful doing something else. But I also got the confirmation that coaching was what my calling really was. So I was thankful when Tommy Bowden called and allowed me an opportunity to get back in at Clemson. Now I'm entering my 15th year at Clemson."

How did you first start dating his wife:

"We were just always great friends. In middle school, we started 'going together,' that's what you did back then. Then we just decided we were going to be friends again; then we started dating each other again in high school."

Who broke up with who in middle school?

"That would be me. I'll never forget that day. It's not like we had cell phones or social media. You just didn't see each other for three weeks. I just decided that I just wanted to be friends. I told Kath, I just think that I don't really want a girlfriend now. She was like, "it's oka, it's not a problem. She' always been the sweetest person in the world. We've always just been great friends. Then in high school, I said, all right it's time to start dating. For the record, I went to Alabama first, so she followed me. She had plenty of other options, but she followed me. She'll have a different story."

What was the worst purchase you ever made?

"You know, since the beginning of my head coaching career, I don't have many regrets. Most of my regrets were when I didn't have any money. 'What was I thinking?' Some stupid investment where I took $2,000 to buy something that was worth nothing. I'm a little wiser now."
