Marcquise Reed will continue his basketball career overseas.

The former standout guard for the Tigers has officially been picked up by Chorale Roanne Basket, a club located in France, for the 2019-20 season. Roanne is about 56 miles northwest of Lyon, France.

Chorale Roanne has won two French ProA titles in its history, most recently in 2007. The signing of Reed finalized the Chorale Roanne roster for the upcoming season.

“Marcquise Reed is a player we have been following since the beginning of the market, but he preferred to do the Summer League first and see if he could win a contract,” head coach Laurent Pluvy said. “He is a strong shooter, good defender, and very good rebounder for his size.”

This will be Reed’s next step in his career following a Summer League showing with the Detroit Pistons. Reed only got two games of action during his time with the Pistons, finishing with only five minutes of playing time and two made free throw attempts.

Reed’s time at Clemson was much brighter.

Reed scored over 2,000 points in his career. The 1,484 points scored as a Tigers are the 12th most in program history. During his final season at Clemson, Reed averaged 19.4 points, 2.1 steals, and 5.5 rebounds per game, all career-highs. Reed also had 13 20-point games in his final season.

He was picked preseason to the All-ACC second team. Both Reed and Elijah Thomas finished the season with third-team All-ACC honors.

Reed was the first player in the last 30 years for Clemson to finish a season with more than 500 points, 100 rebounds, 50 assists, and 50 steals. The last player to accomplish that feat was Terrell McIntyre, Director of Player Development on Brad Brownell’s staff.

McIntyre played for 12 years in Europe. Over his career, he played on four Italian League Championship teams that went on to win the Italian Cup Championship in 2009 and 2010. McIntyre was also the MVP of the Italian League in 2007 and 2009.

So if Reed’s career can be anything like McIntyre’s was, Chorale Roanne is sure to get the best bang for their buck.

The start of Reed’s European career will begin Sept. 21.
