4-star wide receiver E.J. Williams commits to Clemson

E.J. Williams announced his commitment to the Tigers on Saturday afternoon, adding himself into what is already a monster 2020 recruiting class that many believe could be the best ever in college football.

The 6’3, 183-pound receiver, from Central High in Phenix City, AL, comes from the same high school as current Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross, who burst onto the college football scene as a freshman in 2018. When Williams gets to Clemson, he will be reunited with Ross and safety Ray Thornton, also a former Central teammate.

After a disappointing Friday night season opening 17-14 loss to historical powerhouse Hoover that finished beyond midnight, Williams is happier today to honor his hard work and his late father on the date of his father's passing with his commitment.

Williams caught six passes for 57 yards and scored on a 13-yard reception in last night's matchup of the best teams in the state of Alabama.

Earlier this month, Central head coach Jamey DuBose, who was present for Williams’ announcement, spoke to ClemsonSportsTalk about Williams.

“Eddie is quiet, in a sense, like Justyn but he does talk a little bit more. He works and goes about his business like Justyn though. He’s got to get a little stronger. Justyn’s thicker but Eddie’s longer. Eddie has a longer reach too and both run good routes and have good hands. He has a longer stride and probably more speed,” said DuBose. “I also think Eddie can have an impact as a freshman too."

With receivers Williams and Ajou Ajou “All-In”, the Clemson coaching staff is expected to add one more receiver to the 2020 class.
