Chapel Hill, N.C. - The eighth-ranked Clemson women’s soccer team fell in a 1-0 decision to No. 3 North Carolina at the newly christened Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. Clemson moves to 8-2-1 on the season and 2-2 in conference action after squaring off with their highest ranked opponent of the season.

“I was really proud of our effort and performance today. The kids came out and left everything out on the field,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanski said. “These are two really good teams and our kids kept battling until the final whistle. The result didn’t go our way, but we will learn and grow from this game.”

MacIver remained steadfast in net with multiple goal line chances denied to keep the match scoreless. Despite North Carolina holding the shot 8-3 shot advantage after 45 minutes of play, only two would land on target and both teams would head to the locker room without a goal.

Coming into the second half of action, Clemson stayed put with their first half lineup with Lauren Bruns being the only new addition up top for the Tigers. However, North Carolina got things started in the second half with a goal in the 55th minute. A curving set piece from Maycee Bell just outside of the box was met by a diving Bridgette Andrzejewski, marking the senior’s fifth goal of the season. The remaining 35 minutes of play would stay quiet as the 55th minute goal would be the decider in the top-10 match.

“When you play in the ACC every game is a tough game,” Radwanski added. “We are ready to put this game behind us and begin our recovery and preparation to take on Louisville.”

Clemson’s next bout of competition comes against Louisville and Duke who both currently hold national rankings in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Tigers will head to Kentucky for a 5 p.m. match against the Cardinals on Oct. 10 before heading back across the border to square off against the Blue Devils on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
