Clemson Opens Season Against Furman

Clemson and Furman will tipoff at 7pm on Wednesday, November 6 at Littlejohn Coliseum. Fred Cunningham will broadcast the game on ACC Network Extra, while William Qualkinbush and Sarah Jo Lawrence will have the radio call for the Clemson Tigers Network.

Here are some notes as we head towards tipoff:

  • Clemson officially opens the 2019-20 season on Wednesday evening as Furman comes to Littlejohn Coliseum for a 7:00pm matchup between two Upstate South Carolina Institutions. 
  • Clemson returns one of its four double-figure scorers from last season’s NCAA Tournament team-Kobi Thornton. Thornton led the Tigers in scoring (14.1) and rebounds (7.2).
  • The Tigers feature eight new faces on this season’s squad- Five freshmen and three transfers.
  • Mikayla Hayes and Kendall Spray will both see the floor as Tigers for the first time this season after sitting out in 2018-19. 
  • Clemson was picked 8th in the ACC Preseason Poll by both the coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel. 
  • The Furman Paladins enter the 2019-20 season as the favorite to win the Southern Conference by the league’s head coaches and were picked second by the media. Furman received a total of six first-place votes in the preseason coaches’ poll and five in the preseason media poll. 
  • Le’Jzae Davidson and Celena Taborn were both selected as the Paladins’ representatives on the Preseason All-Southern Conference Team. 
  • Furman is coming off its second appearance in program history in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) last season after going 19-14 overall. 

Series History: 

  • The Tigers and Paladins are meeting for the 28th time in program history. 
  • Clemson leads the all-time series 23-4 dating back to the 1975-76 season. 
  • Clemson owns a 12-1 record over the Paladins at home and a 10-3 record on the road. 
  • Furman won the last meeting between the two teams, 70-49, back during the 2015-16 season in Greenville.
