Trevor Lawrence: "Love must outweigh hate"

Clemson’s most famous athlete on campus is speaking out against racial injustice days after an unarmed black man, George Floyd, was killed while in the custody of Minnesota Police.

Lawrence, who also recently used his platform to raise money for COVID-19 relief didn’t directly mention the passing of Floyd, but noted that he sided with those who deal with things that he, “will never experience.”

“There has to be a shift in the way of thinking. Rational must outweigh irrational. Justice must outweigh injustice,” Lawrence stated. “Love must outweigh hate. If you put yourself in someone else’s shoes and you don’t like how it feels- that’s when you know things need to change.”

In a second tweet, Lawrence went on to say that:

“I’m siding with my brothers that deal, and continuously deal, with things I will never experience. The injustice is clear.. and so is the hate. It can no longer be explained away. If you’re still “explaining” it - check your heart and ask why.”

Lawrence, a devout Christian, has always been willing to openly share about his faith and beliefs.
