Clemson #1 in College Football Playoff Rankings
The Clemson Tigers are the unanimous #1 team in college football just five days before the final College Football Playoff rankings are released.
The latest CFB Playoff rankings placed the Clemson Tigers at No. 1 after a dominating performance against South Carolina in a 34-10 win on Saturday. The Tigers were aided by Alabama falling to Auburn 24-14 and Miami losing to Pitt 26-14.
The top four teams in the polls are #1 Clemson, #2 Auburn, #3 Oklahoma, and #4 Wisconsin.
Rece Davis stated, "I'm of the belief that Clemson should be in regardless of what happens, barring a 58-0 loss to Miami. I think Clemson should be in," a statement similar to the one made by our very own Lawton Swann tonight on Clemson Sports Talk.
Clemson is now 11-1, including a 7-1 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Tigers boast wins over six teams with winning records.
In addition to Clemson's victory over #2 Auburn, the Tigers have a win at #22 Virginia Tech and #24 NC State.
Four of Clemson’s wins have come on the road against top 25 teams at the time. It is the first time Clemson has had four top 25 road wins in one season.
Kirk Herbstreit noted about Clemson's wins, "Clemson's resume, you hate to say they don't need to win their championship, but I think at the very least if it's a close game, I think Clemson will definitely still have the resume to put them in."
The College Football Playoff semifinals will be played at the Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl on January 1st. The National Championship will be held on Monday, January 8th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Clemson has been in the top four of the CFB Playoff rankings 17 consecutive times, which is second only to Alabama who's been there 20 straight times.
Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State are the only teams that have appeared in all 23 sets of the CFB Playoff rankings.
