On a day that’s been filled with concern about the ending of the season, the face of college football says they “want to play.”

All afternoon, I’ve been hit with messages from fans about the 2020 season and if we will ultimately get to play this year. Most of the conversations started after the MAC decided to move their season to the spring. That hit close to home as Clemson was hoping to play Akron on Sept. 19.

Then further reports emerged that the Big Ten might be looking to make a similar move, as a report came out that Big Ten commissioner, Kevin Warren, prefers a spring college football season. That something I’ve discussed here quite a bit. For the past few weeks, I’ve been looking at the Big Ten and the Pac-12 to gauge the next steps on the college football front. I’ve heard from multiple sources that those two leagues are the most likely to pull the plug on the fall season.

A few minutes ago, Trevor Lawrence tweeted, “I don’t know about y’all, but we want to play.”

During yesterday’s media session, Lawrence discussed his thoughts on opting-out and why ultimately he made the decision to play this year.

“You know, I think everyone's thought about it just with everything going on. But I mean, since I made the decision to play I haven't thought about it again. That's my decision. I'm committed,” Lawrence noted. “I'm just ready to have a great year and be a part of this team.”

It will be interesting to see where things go over the next few days as college football appears to be on very shaky ground.
