Clemson fans got the news that they have been dreading all season, Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be out for the Boston College game this weekend.

The top-ranked Tigers will be without their star quarterback for at least this weekend.

Moments ago, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided the following update this evening on quarterback Trevor Lawrence:

“Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation. He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week’s game against Boston College. While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we’re excited about competing against a very good BC team on Saturday. Go Tigers.”

Trevor Lawrence also put out a statement via his Twitter account:

ESPN’s Holly Rowe confirmed the news on social media moments before Clemson put out their release.

Without Lawrence in the lineup, freshman D.J. Uiagalelei will most likely be the starter. Uiagalelei was banged up two weeks ago and didn’t play in Clemson’s 73-7 win at Georgia Tech. He did however play this past weekend against Syracuse.

This season, Lawrence has completed 135-191 passes for 1,833 yards with 17 TDs and 2 interceptions.

The Tigers travel to Notre Dame next weekend in what could potentially be a Top 5 matchup in South Bend, Indiana.
