And the effect of the long off season.... Signing day gave me the excitement of College football in the off season. How much buzz will be around the second signing day?
Early Signing Period Expectations and Implications
What we expect from Clemson's current verbal commits.
Heading into Wednesday's early signing period, we wanted to look ahead and give you an idea of the players we expect to sign with the Tigers. We will have an update giving our final predictions later today.
Right now, Clemson has twelve commits and we feel confident that all twelve will sign with Clemson during the early signing period.
Clemson's has done a tremendous job building a relationship with each one of the dozen verbal commits. We see no reason not to expect those 12 signatures to arrive via fax Wednesday.
This past weekend, we talked about the distraction that the new signing period has created for coaches. It's also created security for players. They can sign on the dotted line tomorrow and be done with the entire process.
When you think about how Clemson runs their recruiting, it would be hard to imagine any player currently committed not signing.
Swinney and his staff expect players to commit to Clemson when they are "All In".
Rest assured the Tigers are pushing for players to sign this week. If a player refuses at this point, it might become an "either you're with us or you're not" situation.
Coaches can now use this signing period as leverage to get recruiting classes close to complete. If they can eliminate any chance of players flipping, they will do it.
Once the "hay is in the barn" you can also turn your attention to the next set of recruits. Plus, they can focus on a smaller number of unsigned prospects in this class as they head towards February.
In addition to the current commits, here are five names we will be tracking.
Cade Mays - ★★★★★ Offensive lineman who decommited from Tennessee on November 6th. Mays announced a top three featuring Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State on November 30th. The past 24 hours has been interesting to say the least as Georgia is making a late push. Mays will commit at 2:30 PM.
KJ Henry - ★★★★★ A 6'5", 235-pound defensive end from Clemmons, North Carolina (West Forsyth High) is down to Clemson, Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. He's a monster off the edge and his father has been a long time college coach. Henry knows the game. Henry is expected to announce at 4:15ish.
Jamaree Salyer - ★★★★★ From the outside looking in, Salyer seemed to be a lock to the Georgia Bulldogs. Late last week some buzz around if we would commit or not during the early signing period cropped up. Sunday, he verified that he will indeed commit on Wednesday. Salyer is expected to choose between Georgia and Clemson.
Lyn-J Dixon - ★★★★ Dixon was also a Tennessee commit, but backed off of that pledge after the Vols struggled this past season. Dixon, the 5'11, 183-pound running back is down to Clemson and Oklahoma State. Dixon is expected to commit at 2 PM.
Jackson Carman - ★★★★★ Carman is a big, long and athletic tackle, who may be competing for a starting job sooner rather than later. Carman, 6'6, 365-pounds will most likely choose between Ohio State and Clemson. Carman will make his selection at noon on Wednesday.
The following Clemson targets are not expected to commit during the early signing period.
Brendan Radley-Hiles - ★★★★ Expected to announce his decision at the U.S. Army All-American game next month. Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida, and UCLA are all considered in the picture.
Justyn Ross - ★★★★★ Expected to commit later, but in our estimation, Clemson is probably the team to beat even though Alabama and Auburn will certainly challenge for the Yellowhammer State prospect.
