CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson football was already preparing to navigate through plenty of change heading into 2021. Friday’s reports of coaching rearrangements only added more shakeups into the mix.

C.J. Spiller, who previously served as a grad intern for the Tigers, will move into the role of running backs coach pending a ruling by the Board of Trustees on Feb. 4.

Spiller served as a grad intern for the 2020 season but will immediately take charge of a backfield led by rising senior running back Lyn-J Dixon.

As a result, offensive coordinator Tony Elliott will take control over the tight-end position. Elliott previously held reign over the Tiger running backs, but Spiller will now occupy that position. Earlier this week, the College Football Hall of Fame announced Spiller as a 2021 inductee.

Danny Pearman — former tight ends and special teams coach and member of Dabo Swinney’s staff since 2009 — will shift into an off-field role. Pearman’s new position will consist primarily of scouting and evaluating potential transfers. Dabo Swinney has long been critical of the transfer portal since its debut two years ago, but the 12th-year head coach appears to have adjusted his tone.

Larry Williams of Tiger Illustrated was the first to break Friday’s report.

Be on the lookout for a CST-exclusive interview with College Football Hall of Famer and newly-promoted running backs coach C.J. Spiller next week.
