We can now confirm that Clemson starting linebacker Mike Jones Jr. has entered the transfer portal. The news was first reported, as we are aware, by TigerNet.com

Jones has been pushed recently by the emergence of true freshman Trenton Simpson, which could be the reason for his decision.

Jones was an emerging team leader who assumed the nickel/sam position following the departure of Top 10 pick Isaiah Simmons a season ago.

During the 2020 season, he was credited with 30 tackles (4.0 for loss), four pass breakups, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a half-sack in 359 snaps over 10 games, including seven starts.

He was named as a second-team All-ACC selection by Pro Football Focus.

Against Syracuse, Jones recorded three tackles, a half-sack, and his first career interception, which he returned 40 yards to the three-yard line to set up a Clemson touchdown, helping him share team defensive player of the game honors.

Jones also recorded a red-zone interception in the Sugar Bowl vs. No. 3 Ohio State.

A leader both on and off the field, Jones was an integral part of Clemson University’s March for Change, along with Trevor Lawrence, Cornell Powell, and Darien Rencher.
