The Storylines

Clemson enters 2021 riding a streak of 10 consecutive seasons with 10+ wins. The program's 10th consecutive 10-win season in 2020 made Clemson only the third program in FBS history to produce a "double-double" — double-digit wins in a double-digit number of consecutive seasons. The record for consecutive 10-win seasons is 14, set by Florida State (1987-2000). Alabama is the only other program with an active streak of at least 10 straight 10-win seasons. The Tigers have 17 10-win seasons in school history, with 10 coming under head coach Dabo Swinney.

Got my eyes on this Colorado vs. Texas A&M game too. Tough to play at that elevation...Buffs leading early and threatening to extend their lead.

Keep your eyes on this No. 5 Texas A&M game. Colorado is up 7-3 as they open the second half-- would be another great outcome for Clemson just a week after falling to Georgia in the opener.

Swanny tweeted that Will Taylor reminds him a lot of Hunter Renfrow with the ball in his hands with lots of wiggle. His big punt return leads to a Justyn Ross touchdown and Clemson is rolling early up 28-0.

Yeah-- he really does run with a similar style. Quick cuts-- looks like he's going to be fun to watch.

Meanwhile, we've got serious drama in South Bend. Notre Dame trails Toledo 29-24 late in the 4th quarter. Anybody got Peacock?

DJ with his first bad throw of the day that should've been picked off and Clemson has to punt it away for the first time today. 13:26 to play before the half. Tigers lead 28-0.

After an interception for RJ Mickens, DJ U gives it right back to the Tigers on a screen pass that was overthrown by the sophomore. Sloppy play by QB1 the last few plays here.

Really liked how Will Shipley looked on that drive. You can definitely see the speed and power in the young freshman with the inside run play. Tigers wrap up the drive with a touchdown on the read option (not the cleanest exchange) to go up 35-0 with 6:43 to play before the half.

A Mikey Dukes fumble leads to SC State's first points of the afternoon with a field goal. Tigers lead 35-3 at the half. This has not been the cleanest second quarter and Dabo Swinney will not be happy with all of the sloppiness we've seen.

Clemson's offense still has some things to work out. It just doesn't feel normal. Thw much wideout talent to not be better with routes etc.

Great to see Taisun Phommachanh after what he's been through during the spring. He led Clemson on a scoring drive and looked really comfortable with the offense. We also saw Beaux Collins on that last drive. Lyn-J caps it off with a score.

FINAL: Clemson 49, SC State 3 -- This game was pretty much what we expected. Get back on track with a win, get the running game going and continue the effort on defense from last week. I believe 97 players got to play tonight. Still will want to clean up some things but you're back on the winning side of things. Georgia Tech comes to Death Valley next Saturday at 3:30.
