The Storylines

Clemson’s seniors are looking to finish a perfect 26-0 at home for their careers, but will have to do it against a red hot Wake Forest team. The Demon Deacons can secure their spot in the ACC Championship with a win over the Tigers today. Should Clemson defeat the Demon Deacons, their ACC title hopes are not out of reach. The Tigers will need Wake Forest to lose next week and NC State to drop one of their last two games against Syracuse and North Carolina.

Spend this afternoon’s game with us in this thread! Brandon Stockdale will be holding down the fort along with the rest of the CST Staff.

Wake Forest goes 3-and-out and then Clemson marches down on a 7-play, 36-yard drive to get the first points on board on a field goal. Still seeing rocket throws from D.J. as he missed two easy completions that would've been first downs.

The matchup to watch this afternoon was Wake Forest's offense against Clemson's defense. So far? Clemson has 3 sacks and has only allowed one first. Demon Deacs are forced to punt.

Clemson leads 3-0 with 10:47 to play in the opening quarter.

Timeout Clemson with 10:18 to play in the first. They face 2nd and 3 when play resumes leading 3-0.

DJU gets out of pressure somehow and throws it off his back foot to Dacari Collins for a 55-yard completion. What a play.

Will Shipley punches it in from 1 yard out as Clemson scores on 4th and goal on the inside run play.

6:41 to play in the first quarter: Clemson leads No. 10 Wake Forest, 10-0. The play to Dacari Collins from DJU was probably his best play of his career.

Tyler Venables nearly picked off Sam Hartman on third down. Tigers are really doing a nice job bringing pressure.

And... as I type, Will Brown returns the punt 64 yards to the house but he made a fair catch call and the Tigers will start first and 10. A big break for Wake Forst.

Kobe Pace fumbles a first down run and the first mistake for Clemson on the day is right there. Demon Deacons take over with 3:10 to play in the first.

This pressure for Clemson's defensive line is suffocating. Wake Forest just can't get any push up front so far and can't take advantage of the Pace's turnover. Clemson ball now leading 10-0 with 1:28 and counting in the first.

END 1Q: Clemson 10, No. 10 Wake Forest, 0

This is the best opening quarter we've seen from the Tigers all season. Clemson has 178 yards of offense compared to Wake's 10.

Wake Forest is getting revved up on offense. Two straight completions to A.T. Perry and Taylor Morrin have the Deacs in Clemson territory and the Tigers call a timeout. 12 minutes to play before the half. Clemson leads 10-0.

A 14-play, 81 yard drive for Wake Forest ends in a 23-yard FG from Nick Sciba. Deacs got some tempo going early in the series but that timeout from Clemson was critical to get them in sync to hold on the goal line.

Clemson leads 10-3 with 10:21 to play in the first half.

Thanks for holding it down B!

Clemson's played well thus far. Big stop there-- holding Wake to a FG is a win for sure.

Meanwhile in Columbus: Ohio State is absolutely smashing Michigan State 28-0 in the second quarter. 17 straight completions for C.J. Stroud.

Clemson goes into the back of tricks with the jump shot throw from Will Shipley to Davis Allen on 3rd and goal for the touchdown. What a play. Tigers lead 17-3 with 5:15 to play before the half.

Dave Clawson sprints to get a timeout in for Wake Forest. Demon Deacons have it 3rd and goal when play resumes. They are trying to cut Clemson's lead to a one possession game. Sam Hartman hit Jaquarri Robinson for a 31-yard completion against one-on-one coverage to set them up.

1:25 to play in the half: Clemson leads 17-3.

Touchdown Wake Forest. Christian Turner takes the direct snap and runs to his right lowering his shoulder for a 1-yard TD. An 11-play, 75 yard drive took almost 4 minutes off the clock. Clemson leads No. 10 Wake, 17-10 with 1:22 to play before the half.

Let's see if the Tigers can get something right before the half.

DJU is picked off by Malik Mustapha off a tip drill. Wasn't a bad throw there, just a little behind Dacari Collins. Deacs have the ball now trying to get points with 43 seconds to play before the half.

The call is overturned. Wake will retain possession facing 3rd and 18 -- will probably do something safe with 13 secs left.

Andrew Booth picks off Sam Hartman as he makes an incredible catch. Deacs tried to hit a sideline throw.

HALF: Clemson 17, No. 10 Wake Forest 10. Really interesting first half as Tigers have found a bit of a rhythm on offense and Wake Forest is starting to find a rhythm after being shut down on their first three possessions.

Sheesh. Ohio State is steamrolling Michigan State, 49-0 and it's not even halftime. Right now, the latest CFP Rankings have the No. 4 Buckeyes taking on No. 1 Georgia in the semifinals on New Year's Eve. What a matchup that would be.

The Tigers get it down inside the Wake 5-yard line following a few nice runs to start the second half, but DJU and Kobe Pace try to connect on the option pitch, but bad spacing on the pitch gives what looks to be a Wake fumble recovery.

But a heck of a play by Wake's Rondell Bothroyd to scoop it up. DJ should've just kept it for a minimal gain.

Nick Sciba knocks through the 31-yard field goal to cut Clemson's lead to 24-13 with 8:08 to play in the third.

The big play on the drive came from off the bench as Wake Forest backup QB Michael Kern connected with A.T. Perry for a 58-yard completion to get the Deacs in scoring position. Tyler Davis hustled down to make the tackle. That's twice now Clemson has held Wake to a field goal and it's huge.

Hard to believe Clemson has a two possession lead with 3 turnovers.

END 3Q: Clemson 38, No. 10 Wake Forest 13.

Tigers outscore Deacs 21-3 in a third quarter surge but Wake Forest is threatening to score after converting a 4th down on an out route right in front of the Clemson sideline when play resumes.
