Clemson adds Alabama defender to 2022 class

The Clemson football staff has been on the road recently and their hard work is paying off. Last weekend, the 2022 class grew by two when receiver Cole Turner and cornerback Myles Oliver pledged to the Tigers. This past weekend has yielded another addition to the class.

Three-star safety Kylon Griffin‍ (Montgomery Catholic Preparatory, AL) committed to Clemson on Tuesday. Griffin took an official visit over the weekend after receiving an offer on Jan. 4.

"Had an amazing time at Clemson this weekend," he tweeted on Sunday.

Griffin becomes the second safety in the 2022 class joining four-star Under-Armour All-American Sherrod Covil Jr.‍ He may not have the national recognition or position ranking (79th compared to ninth) of former commit Keon Sabb (6'3, 200), now at Michigan, but he is faster and more suited for the position. Sabb, although projected as a safety, could end up at outside linebacker, where a few analysts think fits his size and skillset better.

Griffin (6'1, 180) was down to the Tigers, Nebraska, and the USC-Trojans heading to the Feb. 2 signing day. The one-time Mississippi State commit visited Nebraska on Jan. 16 and is scheduled to travel to California this weekend.

Griffin made 44 tackles, deflected six passes and caused one fumble last season.

Clemson now has 15 commitments in the class.
