Opening comments:

“Excited about another opportunity. Getting back into league play and playing a great Wake Forest team that’s always been a really good opportunity for us when we play those guys. You know I’ve got some history with those guys-- especially working together. Kevin Higgins is a guy I’ve known for a long time. He’s an assistant coach there. He coached for my dad, so we’ve got a good relationship there, and he actually coached my brother a Leigh University. Wayne Lennonburg is a guy that I coached with at Richmond. Excited about seeing them and catching up. They do a great job. They do an awesome job. Dave Clawson is a guy that actually coached my brother in college at Leigh, too, so we go way back with a lot of those guys. Just excited about this opportunity this week.”

On Liberty almost knocking off Wake Forest last weekend:

“It’s always fun to watch teams that you used to coach for a Liberty is a great program. They’ve done an unbelievable job developing a powerhouse. It was a neat place. It was a great experience for me when I was there for those six years, from 2006-2011. I hold Liberty near and dear to my heart for sure. It’s a special place.”

On facing Wake Forest on the road:

“Really excited about the opportunity. Wake Forest won the division last year. They’ve got a ton of experience back. They do a great job on the coaching staff. They maximize the talent they have. They play hard. Everybody on their team is a relentless effort guy. It’s going to be a big challenge for our guys. Getting back into league play-- it’s a big opportunity. I think we are in a great spot as far as our confidence. I just feel like we’ve been able to build and improve each week. Going on the road-- 12:00 game-- of course, this is going to be a big challenge. Excited for our guys.”

On Wake Forest being the defending Atlantic Division champions:

That’s going to be the big message this week-- they are the reigning champs in our division and we have an opportunity to continue to build off of this season and gain confidence. It’s going to be a big challenge for our guys. It’s a big, big opportunity, and then we are going on the road, and we haven’t been on the road in a couple of weeks. We’ve got to be ready to play. I know our guys will be up for the challenge.”

On the La. Tech tape:

“I felt like we started fast. We had that first drive of the game. That was a great drive. We’ve been able to do that consistently at the beginning of games-- so that’s good to see. I felt like we were very balanced. We had 280 rush yards and 230 or 240 pass yards, so being a balanced team is something we really like to be. So we can build off of that.”

On Beaux Collins:

“You said Beaux Collins and consistent, and that’s who he is. He comes to practice every day and has that consistent effort and consistent mentality that you need to be a good player. It has shown the last three weeks. It’s pretty neat because D.J. (Uiagalelei) and Beaux played together in high school too. They know each other very, very well and their games very well.”

On Adam Randall:

It was unbelievable. I mean, that kid has put so much hard work into his rehab. He had a great spring leading up to his injury. Just really never thought it would be quite this early, but we saw how everyone kind of heals at different paces and in different ways. Came back a little earlier than we thought. The kid is just a grinder. Works his tail off and deserves it, and he goes out there and earns it every single day.”

On the lack of targets in the middle of the field:

“It really depends on the game plan and what they are giving us. We had one that we had early in the game that we missed to Joe (Ngata) in the middle of the field. It just totally depends on the type of defense they are playing. They played a ton of man with one-high safety. So sometimes you have to attack the edges of the field a little bit more. There’s always inside routes in every game plan. It just depends on what the quarterbacks read is and how the progression works out with that particular game plan.”
