Four-star Champ Thompson announced his commitment to Clemson on social media Saturday night.
Thompson committed after Clemson’s Elite Junior Day, where the Tigers hosted more than a dozen top 300 national recruits. Thompson is a four-star defensive lineman and a consensus top 300 prospect. He’s listed at 6’3, 250 pounds, and is from Meadowcreek High School (Ga.).
Thompson chose Clemson over the other contenders on his top seven list; Florida State, Penn State, Miami, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, and Georgia.
The Georgia native stands because of his ability to pressure the quarterback from any position on the defensive line. He displays a rare ability to blow up run plays consistently with his combination of get-off and physicality. He fits the mold of a Clemson defensive lineman and could serve as an anchor recruit in the metro-Atlanta area to help the program build its 2024 class.
The Tigers signed a dozen players from Georgia in the 2023 class, and Thompson is their first addition from the state in the 2024 group.
Defensive line coach Nick Eason was Clemson’s primary recruiter for Thompson. After Eason and Lemanski Hall signed six top 300 edge/defensive line prospects in the 2023 class, they are poised to add even more talent to that group in the next class.
Thompson is Clemson’s fourth commit in the class, joining four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin, kicker Nolan Hauser, and tight end Christian Bentancur.
