At the ACC Kickoff, we had a chance to sit down with many players from around the ACC. Today, we feature our exclusive interviews with three First Team All-ACC Preseason players, Duke's DeWayne Carter, FSU's Jared Verse, and Bryan Hudson from Louisville.

DeWayne Carter | Duke, Defensive Tackle

On his family legacy in college football:

"Yeah, man. I'm blessed. On my dad's side, nothing but football. My dad said he started playing when he was four, and my uncle did the same. My dad played at Ohio State from '91 through '95. He's the baby of the family. Everybody else, my Uncle Raymond, played at Notre Dame as running back. My uncle John played at West Kentucky. Then the patriarch of the family, my grandfather, Raymond Carter Sr., he's in the Hall of Famer at Youngstown State University. as a running back."

On ending up as an interior defensive lineman in a family of skill-position guys:

"We are asking the same questions because growing up, I thought I was running back, receiver, and I got a little bit bigger. But it's funny because working out with my dad in the front yard and everything growing up, I was being a receiver, being a tight end, being running back, you know, all the skill positions. So it kind of blessed me with the skill set and the foundation coming up, especially playing soccer with the footwork of a little guy, I guess you could say."

On minoring in Theatre at Duke:

"Yes. I've never done any productions, but I did a little bit of theater in high school. As far as classes, a little bit of production stuff. But as far as like production, at college? No. I've got asked to try out for different programs and stuff through the classes I've taken, but obviously, football commitments it's not feasible. So I wish I could, but I love it."

Jared Verse | Florida State, Defensive End

On how he’s grown as a player entering the season:

"Every year I've ever played football, I've been more focused on me and what I'm able to do. Even last season, I was more focused on me. But this season is completely different for me, personally. I'm like, alright, what can I do for the team? This is a whole different focus for me. Honestly, I feel like I've gotten better as a player because of it."

On the matchup with LSU:

"Honestly, it means a lot. That's something that starting the season off with a win is important in any facet, no matter who we are playing. We're starting off against them (LSU). That's a good team. They're a lot better. They won their division last year. Now we got to go off and face them again, and we've got to show like we can do it again. Last year wasn't something that happened by accident."

On what he does in his downtime:

"I love playing video games. I play a couple with my guys, but my main thing is that I love to read. So I grab a book, I'll take it out on my balcony, and I'll read for a couple of hours. I'll just open my shades in my room, sit in my chair, and read for a couple of hours. I just love reading. I used to do Audible books, but now that I have more downtime, I like to just like have the physical book in my hand. So I like to read it. I don't even do, like, what's it called? The Amazon App? Where you can buy the book? I don't even do that, like Kindle, I don't do that. I actually go to Barnes and Noble and get the actual book."

Bryan Hudson | Louisville, Center

On the opener vs. Georgia Tech in Mercedes-Benz Stadium:

"Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun. It's always a great experience. We were fortunate enough to play in that game two years ago. So it'd be fun to go down there and kick it off in conference play. So we're all excited about it."

On a division-less ACC:

"Yeah, there's a lot of unknowns. I mean, like you said, it's completely new to the ACC. So it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out--  just the difference without having any division and not playing the usual ACC teams that we normally do. We're all just interested to see how it'll play out and just gives a lot of opportunity for all the teams and for the competition, so we're excited about it."

On growing up in the “Birthplace of Bourbon” Georgetown, Kentucky:

"Yeah, it's been awesome. It's a great town, a great county. There's a lot of a lot of pride that comes with Scott County playing at Scott County High School under coach Jim McKee. He's done a great job with that program. It's been a lot of fun. That whole town of Georgetown has grown a lot, even since I've left and came to college, just with the Toyota plant; there has been huge and bringing a lot of people in and just revamping the whole town. There's been a lot of construction and a lot of new places that come into Georgetown. So it's been interesting."
