Beaux Collins
On what last year taught him: “It made me a lot hungrier than I was. Being able to appreciate the game. Seeing that the game would continue with or without me was a big thing to overcome. That was probably my first big injury, where I had to miss time. It was a pretty big learning experience. I appreciate it.”
On Garrett Riley’s offense: “It’s not many challenges, just go out there and have fun-- play fast, strong, and physical. I’m just excited to see all the wrinkles we are going to have. We have pretty much the majority of the offense in, and it will change from week to week. It’s exciting, man. It’s a lot of fun to play in. We play fast and explosive.”
On being healthy: “I’m not gonna lie, probably since I got here. I had a foot injury when I got here my first spring. A couple of groin and hamstring injuries and things like that-- I had to overcome. It feel great to finally be healthy. It’s probably been a couple of years since I felt this great.”
Xavier Thomas
On Clemson’s new offense: “It’s definitely a different energy around the group ever since this summer. Just doing things like skills and drills-- the route concepts they have going on. It definitely can spread your defense open. It’s going to be fun to watch this year.”
On his weight: “I would say it’s 90% diet from my experience. Working out is probably the easiest part. Just changing your eating habits and things like that-- which I had done last year-- but just didn’t do it to the extent that I was able to do it this year. I wanted to do that because that’s where I feel my best in regards to the way I move and things like that.”
On his personal goals this season: “I have a few personal goals, but the ultimate goal is definitely to win a national championship. That’s the ultimate goal in regards of the team and that’s what I’m focused on.”
On the freshmen defensive line: “Really good. I see a lot of similarities to that 2018 lineup. We have some really good, young, talented guys. Not just talented, but they have a really good work ethic. Coming in this spring, seeing how they worked this summer. They were here doing all the extra workouts that were done-- they were here. Seeing a group of young guys with that work ethic. It’s great to see. The sky is the limit for that young group.
