Wednesday morning, we heard from Clemson defensive lineman Justin Mascoll and offensive lineman Blake Miller.

Justin Mascoll
On kicking off the season with an ACC Game: “It means a lot. We stressed it a lot. Coming out on a Monday night, everybody is watching. Everybody is tuned in. It’s exciting.”
On playing on a Monday: “For one, it allows us to learn from others-- the good and the bad. Also, really the schedule it’s not a good or bad thing; it’s normal. It’s a regular game week. It’s a Monday night, but we treat it like a Saturday. Anytime, any place, anywhere.”
On Wes Goodwin in year two: “I love it for Wes, honestly. He’s come a long way since last year, telling us what he needs and what he wants. The guys have been great in giving him what he needs and what he wants. I’m excited for him this year.”
On emphasizing turnovers: “Really in practice, it’s coming into practice with game rep mindset, uncommon effort, and toughness. I think that’s what we’ve been doing this offseason. Just stressing in the summer, this camp, we’ve done turnover circuits every day. It’s been good. I’m excited. Swat the ball, playing with effort, getting to the ball; it’s always the one that you don’t see. That’s how fumbles happen.”
Blake Miller
On his growth from Year 1 to Year 2: “I feel like Year 1 was just learning the fundamentals that Coach Austin teaches and learning the scheme. Learning how defenses play in high-level college football vs. high school is completely different. Now I feel like I can focus on those finer details and geting things perfect. I feel the Year 1 to the Year 2 jump has been really big. I’m looking forward to playing.”
On freshmen who stand out: ”I think everyone that we’ve brought in works incredibly hard. I could go on for five minutes about each individual freshman that we’ve brought in. I love all those guys. I think a guy that picked it up kind of quick was Harris (Sewell). Then there are guys like Zack (Owens), I look at Zack he went through everything. He almost surprised me with his work ethic and how hard he works. Just his mentality-- he’s a finisher. No matter what happens, he’s going to finish.”
