Beaux Collins, junior wide receiver, exhibited his skills on Saturday in the Tigers’ home opener against Charleston Southern.
After a rough first half, sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik threw to Collins for an explosive catch-and-run over the middle for 69 yards and a touchdown to put the Tigers’ ahead 45-17 with seven minutes left in the quarter.
Collins caught up with the media after the game and commented on the excitement of making big plays for the team.
“It’s been a long time coming. Having an injury last year. Having to sit out some games. I’ve just been hungry. It’s exciting to go out here and make plays for my teammates, my family, Coach Swinney, Coach Grish-- just all the hard work paying off.”
Collins came off Monday's loss at Duke with five receptions for 50 yards and no touchdowns. On Saturday, however, he showcased his talent, ranking up seven receptions for 137 yards, which matched his career-high, set in 2021 against Wake Forest. Collins’ 69-yard touchdown reception on Saturday was the longest of his career at Clemson and his first touchdown of the 2023 season.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik was asked about Collins in his postgame interview.
“Super happy for him. Everyone knows what he can do. He can stretch the field. He can be vertical. He can run every single route. You can throw it up to him and know he is gonna go get it. I have so much confidence with him out there.”
The Tigers’ came away with a huge 66-17 victory over Charleston Southern in the home opener on Saturday. This week, the team prepares to face Florida Atlantic, which is scheduled for an 8 PM kickoff on the ACC Network.
