Swinney on loss to Seminoles: 'Give Florida State credit. That's a really good team.'
Opening Statement: “That honestly is about as tough of a loss as I have ever been a part of. You win one like that it’s top of the world. You lose one like that; you’re just sick to your stomach. But it was a great college football game. Tremendous effort by both teams. You’ve got to congratulate Florida State. They made one more play than we did.”
On the turnovers: “Honestly, we are 2-2 because we’ve given up 36 points off turnovers. It’s not just having a turnover. It’s a scoop-score. It's a pick-six. We gave up 38 points off turnovers last year in 14 ball games. Big picture, that’s what happened in the game. I mean we are thinking we are about to go up 14 points, and we get a miscommunication with protection and the next thing you know it’s a tie ball game.”
On the defense: “Our defense? Wow, what a second half. They were unbelievable. You give up 17 points to a great offense like they have, you should win the game every time. Our defense gave us a chance to win the game in the second half. Super proud of them. We stopped the run. We out-rushed them 146-22 yards.”
On the crowd: "Our crowd was amazing. An electric atmosphere. Our fans were awesome. I just wish we could have given them one more play. My heart hurts for them. They did their part."
On Wes Goodwin: "I thought Wes did a hell of a job. There won't be many teams that will hold them to 17 points."
On Cade Klubnik: “I thought Cade was amazing. That kid was amazing. Absolute amazing performance by him. I mean, he’s 25-38-- made some huge plays. I thought our receiver really did a lot of good things and played well.”
