This week’s Overnight Sensation, Toriano Pride Jr., was a force in Clemson’s 17-12 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday.

Pride, a sophomore cornerback, from St. Louis, Missouri, stepped into play at the last minute because Sheridan Jones fell ill prior to the start of the game. Pride had a total of seven tackles, accounting for six solos and one assist. He also had one tackle for loss.

Head Coach Dabo Swinney commented on Pride’s performance during his post-game press conference.

“Hats off for Toriano, and for Avieon and those guys for being ready. You sit in the meetings. You're on the practice field. Sometimes you may play, you may not, but you have to be ready for your opportunity, and it was good to see Pride take advantage of his opportunity,” Swinney noted.

“He made some huge plays. He had some big-time PBU’s, some tight coverage. He played clean. Hopefully, it was a game that will boost his confidence. He made some really good physical tackles too.”

The Tigers’ defense really stepped up in their close victory over the Deacons. In the first half, Wake started multiple drives in Clemson territory, but were only able to come away with three points from those drives. 

As the Tigers head into the bye week, they prepare to face a talented Miami team on October 21st.
