Coach Speak: No. 1 Clemson 42, No. 7 Miami 17
Dabo Swinney
On developing through the years, “It’s just our DNA. It’s one of those things that are woven into the culture. These guys believe and they expect to win. Just our mentality, we respect every opponent. To have consistency, we talk about competitive stamina."
On the tight ends, “Braden (Galloway) is a special talent— like a wideout with the physicality of a tight end. Davis Allen is another guy, big…strong…athletic. There is more there that we should be able to do with those guys."
Says this was the "JV version" of the Notre Dame game. "That was about as good as you can get in 2020 right now. It was awesome"
Says that nothing that he sees from Trevor shocks him, except for Lawrence spiking the ball. "I don’t get the opportunity to yell at him much."
Says that even on defense there is “plenty that we can correct."
On the offense, “We really missed some big plays. I thought it was a great plan— well executed."
On the defense: “They were relentless. We had a good scheme tonight. We did an awesome job, disrupted them all night. Sacks, turnovers. It was a turnover fest in the second half.”
Tony Elliott
On Miami: “I tip my cap to what they’ve done with those guys down there. We had to have a plan to control the inside guys then we had to slow those ends down with some tempo and eye-candy."
On D.J. Uiagalelei and Trevor Lawrence in at the same time, “For us in this environment, just trying to get as many guys in the game as possible. Just trying to get those guys touches. We need all those guys to be ready to play as we progress."
On Trevor Lawrence’s injury: "I was told he just had the air knocked out of him."
On the 51-yard field goal attempt: “I’m never going to second guess Coach. I just want to know about how many plays I have. Do I have 3 plays or 4 plays?"
On Davis Allen’s block on Etienne’s 72-yard run: “Just love Davis Allen as a football player. He loves contact."
On Trevor Lawrence getting fired up: “When your best players are your hardest workers it just resonates in the whole locker room. Would like to see him NOT spike the ball there, we will deal with that, but you have to like the fire that he plays with."
