No. 16 Gamecocks Walk Off With 3-2 Win in 11 Innings Over Tigers

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Andrew Eyster's walkoff double with one out in the 11th inning lifted No. 16 South Carolina to a 3-2 victory over No. 22 Clemson at Fluor Field on Saturday afternoon. The Gamecocks, who took a 1-0 lead in the season series, improved to 5-0, while the Tigers fell to 3-1. South Carolina also snapped Clemson's 11-game winning streak at Fluor Field.

After James Parker, who earlier extended his hitting streak to 11 games, hit a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to tie the score, Jeff Heinrich lined a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the ninth inning, Parker led off with a home run, his second of the season, on an 0-2 pitch to tie the score 2-2.

The Tigers put two runners on base with no outs in the top of the 11th inning, but a double play thwarted the threat. Then in the bottom of the 11th inning, Brady Allen led off with a double. After a strikeout and an intentional walk, Eyster ripped a 1-2 pitch off and over the glove of a leaping Bryce Teodosio in right-center to score Allen for the walkoff run.

Will Sanders (1-0) earned the win by tossing 1.0 hitless and scoreless innings. Geoffrey Gilbert (0-1) suffered the loss. Davis Sharpe, Mack Anglin, Rasesh Pandya and Gilbert combined for 21 strikeouts against only three walks in 10.1 innings pitched for the Tigers, who saw their 10-game winning streak in one-run games come to an end.
