Tigers Start Final Week of Regular Season With Trip to Winston-Salem
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Clemson Tigers women’s basketball team (11-17, 4-12) starts its final week of the regular season by traveling to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-22, 2-14) on Thursday evening.
The game tips off in LJVM Coliseum on Thursday, February 29 at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network. Roy Philpott and Brooke Weisbrod will be on the call for ACC Network, William Qualkinbush and Sarah-Jo Lawrence can be heard locally on 105.5 The Roar and the Clemson Tigers app.
Clemson heads to Wake Forest after celebrating the careers of Amani Freeman, Dayshanette Harris, Danielle Rauch, and Amari Robinson on Sunday. The Tigers closed their season with a winning record at home for the second-consecutive season.
The Tigers took a 73-59 win over Wake Forest in Littlejohn Coliseum earlier this season. Clemson was led by Robinson who put up 21 points and four rebounds while going 10-12 from the free-throw line. Mackenzie Kramer added 17 points and shot 4-7 from outside. The Tigers outrebounded the Demon Deacons 44-31 and used a 29-point outburst in the second quarter to propel them to victory.
Amari Robinson is having her best season and putting the finishing touches on what has been a remarkable career. The 2022-23 All-ACC selection has developed into one of the most efficient scorers in the nation. She leads the ACC in true shooting (.622) and effective field goal percentage (.575). Robinson is the only player in a power five conference to lead her team in points per game, rebounds per game, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage (min. 75% of games played, 1.5 3PA per game, 5 FGA per game).
A massive part of Robinson’s efficiency has been her volume. She is averaging 18 points per game in ACC play, and she’s the only player in the conference to have scored at least 35 points on multiple occasions. She ranks ninth in the nation for most games with 20 or more points on at least 60% shooting from the field with seven. With 926 career rebounds, Robinson needs to snag seven more rebounds to surpass Lele Hardy for third-most in Clemson history.
Dayshanette Harris, a fifth-year student-athlete who played four years at Pitt, is having the best season of her career. Harris has developed into one of the best distributors in the country this season. She leads the ACC and ranks third in the nation with an assist rate of 45.4%.
In ACC play, Harris is averaging 16.6 points per game and is second in the conference for most assists per game (5.8). She is averaging career highs of 13.7 points and 5.1 assists per game, while shooting a career-best 45% from the field.
The Tigers are enjoying a much-improved Ruby Whitehorn this season. Whitehorn, who was named to the 2022-23 ACC All-Freshman team, has improved her numbers across the board this season. During conference play, Whitehorn is averaging 12.2 points and six rebounds per contest. She’s shooting better than she ever has at 45% from the floor and 32% from three and is contributing on the defensive end with 1.6 steals per outing.
