CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 7 Clemson scored 20 runs on hits in its 20-7 victory over Winthrop at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday. The Tigers, who won the game in seven innings by the 10-run rule and won their fifth game in a row, improved to 7-1, while the Eagles dropped to 4-4.

With Clemson scoring in all six innings in which it batted, it was the eighth time in school history the Tigers scored in every inning. Clemson’s 20 runs were its most since its 20-5 win over Miami (Fla.) on March 20, 2022. Every Tiger starter scored a run by the fourth inning as well.

The Eagles scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning, capped by Koby Kropf’s solo homer, then Clemson responded with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Jacob Jarrell’s grand slam, his first long ball of the year. In the second inning, Jarren Purify’s groundout gave Clemson a 6-2 lead.

After Winthrop plated a run in the top of the third inning, Clemson scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks in large part to run-scoring singles by Dominic Listi and Josh Paino. The Eagles came right back and scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, started by Josh Skowronski’s two-run homer.

The Tigers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to build a 17-7 lead. After Listi’s run-scoring single, Tryston McCladdie hit a two-run double, then Cam Cannarella lofted a run-scoring triple. Paino followed with a two-run homer, his first as a Tiger. Collin Priest made it back-to-back homers, his first as a Tiger as well. Clemson tacked on two runs in the fifth inning and Tristan Bissetta ripped a solo homer, his first of the year, in the sixth inning.

Chayce Kieck (1-0) earned his first career win by tossing 2.0 innings in relief. Winthrop starter Lance Wade (0-1) suffered the loss.

The Tigers play South Carolina in a three-game series at three different sites this weekend, beginning Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
