No. 7 Tigers Sweep Gamecocks With 8-2 Win

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Justin LeGuernic and Joe Allen both totaled six strikeouts in No. 7 Clemson’s 8-2 victory over South Carolina at Founders Park on Sunday. The Tigers, who swept the series 3-0 and won their eighth game in a row, improved to 10-1, while the Gamecocks dropped to 9-3.

Allen (2-0) earned the win by tossing 3.0 hitless and scoreless innings in relief with a career-high-tying six strikeouts. Tiger starter LeGuernic surrendered only two hits and one walk with a career-high-tying six strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. South Carolina starter Dylan Eskew (0-1) suffered the loss, as he gave up three hits, one run and four walks with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.

The Tigers scored in the fifth inning on Jarren Purify’s run-scoring single. Dominic Listi extended his hitting streak to 11 with a single in the top of the eighth inning. Later in the frame with two outs, Collin Priest crushed a three-run homer, his second of the year, to put Clemson ahead 4-0. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Gamecocks scored two runs. The Tigers tacked on four runs in the ninth inning, keyed by Cam Cannarella’s two-run single.

Ethan Darden, who pitched 7.0 scoreless innings of three-hit ball to earn the win in Clemson’s victory on Saturday, won the Bob Bradley Award as Clemson’s MVP of the series.

The Tigers travel to Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. to take on USC Upstate on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. Clemson is the designated visiting team and occupies the third-base dugout.
