Each week Sam Blackman joins Lawton to talk about the latest news in Clemson. Sam also gives us an interesting look at the historical significance of many events in Clemson sports history.

On the buzz and hype around Trevor Lawrence:

"There have been a few over the years. I remember years ago it wasn't as heralded as it is now. you would get bits and pieces of information about recruits and recruiting. It's a very modernized way to find out about recruits. You just didn't hear so much about the players until they were here. They didn't come early. That's a new situation. The advantage of that is it gets the young men acclimated to classes and get them stronger in the strength room. It's just a different world now."

On William "The Refrigerator" Perry:

"That's the one that you heard so much about. That's the one people couldn't believe how great he was. He could dunk a basketball. I've seen him dive off a diving board. He was very athletic. He played basketball at old Fike Fieldhouse. He was somebody that would get you instant headlines. If he wasn't the first...well Banks McFadden was well known too, but you didn't have the tools to get the word out. But he (McFadden) was probably the first."

On Spring Practice:

"I wish there was some kind of competition with another school or two during spring practice. I just think that would give the fellas something to look forward to. Back in the late 30's Clemson and Duke used to meet in the spring. Banks McFadden told me one time that was the best game he ever participated in. It was like a one-point victory for Duke. If I was in charge of anything, I would let schools have a controlled scrimmage maybe 75 or so plays and no punting or kickoffs. That would be local and very nice and would give a good way for the coaches to evaluate where they are."
