Clemson added another major piece to its future offensive line haul on Monday as 2027 offensive line prospect Carter Jones announced his commitment to the Tigers.
The Poquoson, Virginia standout has been a longtime priority for offensive line coach Matt Luke and head coach Dabo Swinney, with the relationship dating back to Jones’ first Clemson camp appearance in 2024.
“Clemson separated themselves, I think, really just by culture, fit, development,” Jones said following his commitment. “I think Coach Luke's been a phenomenal offensive line coach. I think what Dabo Swinney has placed there with the faith behind it and faith built in the program really impressed me, and that's why I chose to be a Clemson Tiger.”
Jones has made several trips to Clemson over the last two years, including the program’s Underclassmen Experience and multiple summer camps. His bond with Luke quickly became one of the strongest relationships in his recruitment.
“Coach Luke has had a huge impact on me throughout my recruitment,” Jones previously told ClemsonSportsTalk.com. “He was one of the first coaches to truly believe in me.”
That belief, combined with Clemson’s selective recruiting philosophy, helped separate the Tigers from a national list of contenders.
Behind the scenes, Jones said the decision had been building for quite some time.
“Really, for me, behind the scenes, I FaceTimed Coach Swinney yesterday and told him the news,” Jones explained. “He was at the golf course. He was beyond excited.”
Jones added that Clemson had remained near the top of his list ever since his first camp experience on campus as a freshman.
“I've always had Clemson as a high contender ever since I went down to camp my freshman going into sophomore year,” he said. “Since then, I think Clemson's just grown on me.”
The talented lineman now becomes another key building block for Clemson’s future in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball.
