Texas Transfer Set for Bigger Role as Florida State Offensive Trio Tests Clemson
Florida State's offense features a few familiar faces, including a quarterback and running back who previously faced Clemson while playing for other programs.
Quarterback Ashton Daniels, running back Quintrevion "Tre" Wisner, and wide receiver Duce Robinson combined for 505 yards of offense and five touchdowns in Florida State's 43-35 double-overtime loss to Miami on Oct. 17.
Daniels, an Auburn (2025) and Stanford (2022-24) transfer, completed 15 of 28 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns against the Hurricanes. He also rushed for 31 yards and another score, accounting for all five of the Seminoles' touchdowns.
Against Miami and Alabama, Daniels combined for 713 total yards, six touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns, although he also threw four interceptions.
“Ashton Daniels is a guy that I’ve had respect for. We saw him here,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said on Tuesday, referencing Stanford's 2024 visit to Death Valley. “He’s a really talented player. He has really developed as a more complete quarterback and complete player. Mike has done a great job with him as far as how they’re using him. It all starts with him … a lot of play action, quarterback run game, screens. They’re probably as good a screen team as we’ve seen.”
Daniels rushed for 87 yards on 11 carries in Stanford's 40-14 loss to Clemson on Sept. 28, 2024, but struggled passing, completing 9 of 19 attempts for 71 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He left the game with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
Florida State enters the matchup ranked 62nd nationally in passing offense, averaging 234.1 yards per game.
Wisner Steps Into Larger Role
The Seminoles will be without leading rusher Ousmane Kromah, who suffered a season-ending ankle/foot injury against Miami that required surgery.
Kromah rushed for 609 yards and five touchdowns on 114 carries through seven games, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt.
His absence puts more responsibility on Wisner, a Texas transfer who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in the Longhorns' 38-24 CFP victory over the Tigers on Dec. 21, 2024.
Wisner averaged 7.0 yards per carry against Miami, rushing for 63 yards on nine attempts. He also caught four passes for 56 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown.
Through seven games, Wisner has rushed for 204 yards on 38 carries and added 151 receiving yards on 12 receptions. Freshman Amari Thomas, who has 11 yards on three carries, could also see more opportunities.
Florida State ranks 46th nationally in rushing offense at 180.1 yards per game, while Clemson ranks 53rd in rushing defense, allowing 131.3 yards per contest.
The Seminoles have struggled on the ground in their last two meetings with Clemson, totaling 132 yards on 49 carries, an average of 2.7 yards per attempt, without a rushing touchdown.
Robinson Remains a Big-Play Threat
Robinson returns after catching nine passes for 124 yards on 15 targets in Florida State's 24-10 loss at Clemson on Nov. 8, 2025.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound NFL prospect delivered another strong performance against Miami, catching five passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
His 75-yard touchdown reception tied the game at 28 with 2:39 remaining in regulation, and he added a 20-yard touchdown catch in overtime.
Robinson's ability to stretch the field could create an intriguing matchup with cornerback Ashton Hampton, a semifinalist for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, which honors the nation's top defensive back.
Despite losing its last two meetings with Clemson by a combined score of 53-23, Florida State brings a more versatile offense into this year's contest, with Daniels' mobility, Wisner's experience and Robinson's big-play ability presenting challenges for the Tigers' defense.
