ACC Championship Special - 2 Months for $2 Bucks

Coach Swinney spoke earlier today on the ACC Championship Game teleconference. Swinney got fired up about stories he read and things he heard about following Clemson’s 56-35 win over South Carolina.

We will have all of Coach Swinney and Pitt Coach Pat Nardozzi’s audio up later this evening.

“The bad news is we played our worst game defensively. The good news is that we are a lot better than that, and we all know that, and got a bunch of videos to show it. Basic things that we didn't do right. Then they had some wrinkles too, that we didn't adjust well to as coaches. We got to own it and we'll learn from it. It will make us better. But at the end of the day, you know, I've been a part of this thing for 16 years. I just want to win by one more point and if that ever gets to where that's not enough, then it's time for me to move on somewhere else.”

“I just want to win by one more point and if that ever gets to where that's not enough, then it's time for me to move on somewhere else.”
- Dabo Swinney

“I ain't never going to apologize for a 21 point win over a state rival...ever. And you people who suggest that it felt like a loss, y'all need to check yourself too. I have been here 16 years. For all those people go out there who want to complain about five wins in a row and by winning by three touchdowns, man that's that's shameful. That's a lack of respect for our program and a lack of respect for the effort that these players and coaches put in. I hope you write that.

“12-0 football team. A senior class that's won 52 games and we got people complaining? Give me a break. If 12-0 ain't good enough then it's time to seek other places. Make sure you get that.”

Asked about the fan base and the expectations that they have Swinney added the following.

“12-0 football team. A senior class that's won 52 games and we got people complaining? Give me a break. If 12-0 ain't good enough then it's time to seek other places. Make sure you get that.”
- Dabo Swinney

“Well, I'm going to say it one more time. We've had eight 10+ win seasons. We're 12-0. Third time in the history of this school that we've won five state championships in a row. When that's not enough for some people, that's sad. I've been a part of...we've lost five of those in a row. There's been some articles pushed my way, and some comments from people. This program is never going to be that way. I'm not gonna stand for that, it's too hard to win. Too hard to win. These players work too hard.”

“The goal is to WIN, period. That's just the way it is. I don't want to ever be a program EVER, that doesn't appreciate winning. When you win by three touchdowns in a state championship and you got people who can't appreciate that, man that's really sad. It's really sad. Just look around college football, there's a lot of places out there that would love to have the program that we have here. I can assure you of that.”

Who are the ppl complaining about being 12-0?

It wasn't fun to see our defense play poorly but it never felt like the game was even close yesterday and as my granddad used to say, "one point is as good as 1000"

I think it's more about ppl being concerned about the rest of the games on our schedule.

Good for you Dabo. I totally agree with you. I don't know that many were complaining more than concern on whether SC figured out something on our D.

Coach Swinney, staff, and players, thank you so much for all you do and how proud you continue to make Clemson nation. I remember from the time I was little, being so proud of Clemson, being national champs in '81, abd just how special this place is. The minute Coach Swinney took over I knew it would be the best thing for Clemson. I still believe that. The ONLY way these past years could be better with you as coach, is if my dad could've lived to see them. Please know that the true fans of Clemson nation do not share the negative opinions of those mentioned above. We are extremely blessed to have you as coach, the staff you have brought in, and these young players that make this program a success. I have NEVER been more proud of this university and all y'all do for it. Go tigers!!

I watched the game again and I just give Bentley credit. He played much better than I thought. Clemson's secondary didn't help out and Tanner Muse made some big mistakes, but I was happy with the win. I guess there are just some spoiled fans out there.

One thing though, it sounded like he was mad at some writers too. I thought the story here was perfectly fine.

Another website wrote how the win over South Carolina felt like a loss... I'm pretty sure that was even the title. There's definitely some animosity towards that.

Coach Swinney,
Thank you first for molding and making Real men out of these young men that you are in charge of. You make them realize what is most important in this thing called "life".

Thank you for fostering such a great a atmosphere at Clemson University. Thank you for setting the bar high for the caliber of personnel that you have on staff and for the caliber of players that you choose to represent Clemson University.

As a Clemson fan since the early 70's, I appreciate what I see in you as a person and as a coach. You are in a class that most colleges can only dream of!

Ignorance is nothing more than a lack of knowledge so those that spew out all the negative comments and articles really show the rest of us who they really are, people that probably have never played or coached a game of football in their life!

I am thankful to have you as the coach of the Clemson Tigers, win or lose. THANK YOU!!

Don't let the few always negative Nancies speak for the majority. Tiger Nation is happy. Were ppl upset during the game at the amount of big plays? Yes. Even Dabo and Coach V were not happy. Muse drives me crazy regularly... He tries to be a hero to often and gets burned. But at the end of the game I felt great about a 21 point win. 46-2 in the regular season over the last 4 years. What a run!!! Proud to be a Tiger!!! And proud to have Dabo as the coach. And very proud and greatful for the job he has done. Another goal checked off. Win the State!!! All goals for the season are on schedule! Now on to the next. Win the ACC! Go Tigers!!!!

Coach, I am not a Clemson fan. I am a graduate of Miami and a very proud Cane. BUT, if I were a CU fan I would be proud to have you and your staff coach my Swinney son. Your program teaches both football and life lessons that these young men will need going forward in life. You win or lose with your heads held high knowing that you have given your best effort. Your record at Clemson should rank you in the very elite level of colllege coaches and you should be proud.

Clemson fans, take it from a Miami Hurricane fan, DO NOT allow the media or a few idiots to run off one of the top 5 coaches in the NCAA. Coach Swinney has done an amazing job and your program remains at a very high level. Take it from me personally, there could come a day (and it does not take long to get there) that you could be on the outside looking back and saying "Remember when we were relevent?"

At Miami our school president cost our athletic programs championships. And those are championships that we can never get back. More importantly, she cost our student athletes by eliminating good men and women as coaches to find "yes people" that would not rock her boat. Now that she is gone, we as fans, potential players and coaches have to rebuild the once very proud traditions and programs at Miami.

Be thankful for what you have and do not let others take it away!

Preach it, Coach! If these so called "fans" have anything negative to say about you, your staff, our players, or our school, they can just move on along. True Clemson people support our teams, regardless of the record. The vast majority of Clemson fans love you and appreciate everything you do for us every day, and the type of young men your program is sending out into the world. I hear that that school down the road in Columbia is looking for some fans, so I suggest that anyone who is not satisfied with our record or anything else about Clemson just head south as soon as possible.
