We can’t really label this one as a “miss” for Clemson, because It came as no surprise yesterday when 2020 quarterback Chandler Morris, son of former Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris, announced he will play for his dad at Arkansas.

Morris, who had a Clemson offer, made the announcement via Twitter on Friday afternoon.

The 5-foot-10 four-star quarterback is the No. 10 dual-threat QB in the country and is a top-50 player in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports. He also had offers from Auburn, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Boise State, Colorado, and many other programs.

Last season, Morris threw for over 4,000 yards and had 46 touchdowns to just six interceptions at Highland Park High School in Dallas, TX leading them to the school’s first ever 16-0 record.

Dabo Swinney and Chandler Morris share a moment during camp.

We last saw Morris last summer when he threw at Dabo Swinney’s camp. During his time on campus, he received an offer from his dad’s former employer.

At the time, Swinney didn’t realize that it was the younger Morris who had so much zip on the football during drills. After making his way over for closer inspection, Swinney told Morris’ mom, Paula, that he was going to call Chad about Chandler.

While many believed the Morris’ offer may have been a favor from Swinney, those conversations changed after an offer arrived in from the Oklahoma Sooners.

The elder Morris was the Clemson offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2014. After Clemson, he was named the head coach at SMU before being named head coach for the Razorbacks before the 2018 season.

According to Sports Illustrated, Chad Morris accompanied his son on campus visits to Arkansas’ intra-division rivals, Auburn and Texas A&M. There is no doubt those visits had to be awkward for those heated SEC rivals.
