Disgusting. Grotesque. An abomination. Any of these words or phrases could be used to describe my last two weeks of picks. My picks are almost as bad as that Michigan-Iowa game was. I have as many correct picks this year as those two teams had combined points to my credit. The shooter is starting to run out of shots, but let’s see if I have a few tricks up my sleeve this week. As always, in the immortal words of Deshaun Watson, let’s go be great in week seven.

Friday, October 11th

#20 Virginia at Miami (-2):

I should know by now to stop trying to fade Vegas. Vegas knows. Vegas always knows. But uh... what? Miami, coming off a 42-35 loss to hapless Virginia Tech, turns around on a short week and now gets to play host to a feisty, 4-1 Virginia Cavaliers team, who is coming off a bye week. Virginia, who ranks sixth in the country with 24 sacks on the year, is going to tee off on a helpless Miami offensive line that ranks dead last, with 25 sacks given up. A serviceable offensive performance will follow, and the Cavs get the ACC road victory with relative ease.

#6 Oklahoma (-11.5) vs. #11 Texas:

This one is going to be fun.

Oklahoma comes in dominating everyone, with Jalen Hurts looking like potentially the third straight Heisman winner out of Oklahoma. No, the schedule hasn’t been a murderer’s row, but you’d rather look great against a weaker schedule than struggle against it. Texas, meanwhile, has just one loss to LSU in a game that was much closer than the score indicated at the end, and their offense looks much more explosive than last season. This is going to be a good ole fashioned Big 12 football game, and Texas is going to give the Sooners a huge push in a back and forth affair.

Lowell’s Lock: Texas covers +11.5

USC at #9 Notre Dame (-11):

USC has had an interesting season, with some surprising wins, but they’re still only 3-2. At this point, it feels almost inevitable that Clay Helton is on his way out the door, and Notre Dame may help expedite the process. Ian Book has been superb at home and will continue that trend, while the Notre Dame defense stifles an offense that severely lacks a running attack.

South Carolina at #3 Georgia (-23.5):

The last time we saw the Gamecocks, they came out and shut down the Kentucky Wildcats, breaking a five year losing streak. While that was a nice performance and a confidence boost for a team that’s lacked it lately, Georgia is a whole different animal. The talent discrepancy, the inconsistency of the South Carolina offense, plus the home field advantage along with an ultra-efficient Jake Fromm leads to a game where Georgia runs away with it in the second half after being pushed a little in the first.

Lowell’s Lock: Georgia covers -23.5

#7 Florida at #5 LSU (-13.5):

I’ve perhaps been a little harsh on Florida this year. The Gators’ defense is for real, with three or more turnovers forced in their last four games. This is going to be the toughest test of the season for Joe Burrow and a sudden and surprisingly explosive LSU offense. LSU is going to be able to shut down the Gators on the ground, and they’ll make Kyle Trask win it with his arm. I’m not sure if he can, but I certainly believe he and that Florida defense can make things interesting.

Lowell’s Lock: Florida covers +13.5

Florida State at #2 Clemson (-27):

I’ve gone back and forth on this one. On the one hand, Florida State is still chock full of 4 and 5-star talent, and they’ve won two straight games. On the other hand, Clemson nearly got upset in Chapel Hill two weeks ago and has gotten to sit and stew over that game and listen to the media call them frauds. I think that’s the worst thing that could have happened for the Seminoles. In a game where Clemson is looking to regain national respect, they come out sharp and don’t let up.

Lowell’s Lock: Clemson covers -27
